Blackmagic Design Camera URSA SVF Sunhood
The Blackmagic Design Camera URSA SVF Sunhood is a dedicated spare part designed specifically for the URSA Studio Viewfinder (both the original and the G2 models). This large, metal sunshade is essential for studio and outside broadcast (OB) environments where stage lighting or direct sunlight can cause glare on the viewfinder’s 7-inch display.
Key Design Features
-
Tool-Less Installation: The sunhood is designed for rapid attachment and removal using two integrated thumbscrews. This allows camera operators to quickly adapt to changing lighting conditions without needing a toolkit.
-
Rugged Construction: Unlike collapsible fabric hoods, the SVF Sunhood is made from a rigid, lightweight metal alloy, ensuring it maintains its shape and provides maximum shade even in high-wind outdoor environments.
-
Deep Flare Protection: The depth of the hood is specifically calculated to shroud the 7-inch screen effectively, allowing the operator to judge focus and color accurately without being distracted by ambient light.
Compatibility
This hood is a direct replacement part for the following equipment:
-
Blackmagic URSA Studio Viewfinder: The original 7-inch studio monitor used with URSA Mini and URSA Broadcast.
-
Blackmagic URSA Studio Viewfinder G2: The updated high-brightness (2000 nit) version.
-
Camera Systems: Works when these viewfinders are mounted on the URSA Mini Pro (G1/G2/12K) or the URSA Broadcast G2.

Operational Insight
The SVF Sunhood is often considered a "mission-critical" spare for live sports and event production. While the G2 version of the Studio Viewfinder is extremely bright (2000 nits), a physical sunhood is still preferred by professional operators as it creates a high-contrast viewing environment that reduces eye strain during long multi-hour broadcasts. Because the thumbscrews are captive, they won't fall out when the hood is removed, making it much harder to lose parts in the grass or on a dark studio floor.
