Blackmagic Design Videohub Mini 8x4 12G
The Blackmagic Design Videohub Mini 8x4 12G is a compact, zero-latency 12G-SDI video router designed for professional broadcast and live production environments. Occupying only 2/3 of a rack width, it allows for the simultaneous routing of any combination of SD, HD, and Ultra HD video standards up to 2160p60.
Key Performance Features
-
Multi-Rate 12G-SDI: The router features advanced 12G-SDI connections that automatically switch between SD, HD, 3G, 6G, and 12G-SDI rates. This ensures compatibility with legacy equipment while providing the bandwidth for high-frame-rate Ultra HD via a single BNC cable.
-
Clean Switch Output: A specialized internal re-sync processor is available on the outputs. When connected to a reference source (Black Burst or Tri-Sync), the Videohub performs "clean switches," ensuring glitch-free transitions between sources even if they are not perfectly genlocked.
-
SDI Re-Clocking: Every 12G-SDI input includes built-in re-clocking. This regenerates the video signal to eliminate jitter and data errors, allowing for much longer cable runs without signal degradation.
Front Panel Interface and "Emergency" Patching
The front panel is designed for fast, tactile control and provides "emergency" access points for temporary gear:
-
Direct Routing Buttons: Features a cut-bus style interface with dedicated buttons for inputs and outputs, allowing for instantaneous manual switching without a computer.
-
Front Panel I/O: Includes a front-facing 12G-SDI input and output. Plugging into the front input automatically overrides the highest-numbered rear input (Input 8), while the front output mirrors the highest rear output (Output 4).
-
USB-C Webcam Output: The front USB-C port allows the router to be connected to a computer as a standard 1080p webcam. This enables any routed SDI source to be used directly in streaming or conferencing software like Zoom, OBS, or Microsoft Teams.
Connectivity and Control
-
Inputs/Outputs: 8 x 12G-SDI Inputs with 8 x 12G-SDI Loop Outputs, plus 4 x 12G-SDI Main Outputs.
-
Reference I/O: Dedicated BNC ports for Reference Input and a terminating Loop Output to ensure system-wide synchronization.
-
Ethernet Control: Supports remote operation via the included Videohub Software Control for Mac and Windows, or through hardware panels like the Videohub Master Control Pro.
-
Dual Power Options: Includes a standard internal 100-240V AC (IEC) input and a 12V DC barrel input with reverse polarity protection for redundant power or mobile battery use.
Technical Specifications
-

Deployment Tip
For high-density mobile kits, the Videohub Mini 8x4 is often used to expand the input capacity of ATEM switchers. By routing multiple "utility" sources (like playback decks or remote cameras) into the Videohub first, you can dynamically assign them to a single ATEM input, effectively bypassing the physical input limits of smaller switchers.
