Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 4K Pro G2 (MFT)

The Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 4K Pro G2 is the second-generation update to the popular 4K Pro model. It retains the signature 7-inch high-brightness monitor and professional I/O of the original but adds advanced features like built-in live streaming and improved network connectivity.

It is designed for professional broadcasters who need 12G-SDI or 10G Ethernet workflows while utilizing the vast ecosystem of Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lenses.

What Makes the "G2" Different?

  • Direct Live Streaming: You can now stream directly from the camera via Ethernet or a shared 4G/5G mobile data connection (via USB-C). It supports RTMP/SRT protocols for platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.

  • Global Remote Control: It supports REST APIs, allowing you to control the camera over a local network or even over the internet from anywhere in the world.

  • Upgraded USB-C Ports: The two USB-C expansion ports now support higher-speed data for recording to external SSDs while simultaneously powering accessories like the Zoom and Focus demands.

Core Functionality

  • 4K Four Thirds Sensor: Features a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 with 13 stops of dynamic range and Generation 5 Color Science. This gives your live broadcast a "digital film" aesthetic similar to Blackmagic’s cinema cameras.

  • Dual Native ISO: Optimized for low-light performance with a primary ISO of 400 and a secondary high-base ISO of 3200 (max ISO 25,600).

  • 12G-SDI & 10G Ethernet:

    • SDI: Connects to standard broadcast switchers like the ATEM Constellation.

    • Ethernet: Provides a single-cable "IP" workflow. When paired with the Blackmagic Studio Converter, you get video, return feed, tally, talkback, and 90W PoE power over a single Cat6A cable.

  • 7" High-Brightness HDR Display: Features a 2,000-nit touchscreen, making it viewable in bright outdoor settings. Includes physical knobs for brightness, contrast, and focus peaking.

Operational Insight

In 2026, the 4K Pro G2 is the preferred choice for mobile "fly-pack" rigs. Because it can stream directly to the web via a plugged-in 5G phone, it is often used for remote "on-the-scene" reporting where a full broadcast van isn't feasible.

Pro Tip: If you are using this camera on a long cable run (over 50 feet), skip the SDI/XLR cables entirely and use the 10G Ethernet port. It simplifies your setup to a single cable and is much more reliable in environments with high electrical interference.
