the Blackmagic Design Spares - Smart Videohub 20x20 - PCB Main is the core routing engine and logic board for the Smart Videohub 20x20 mixed-format router. As a massive 6G-SDI cross-point matrix, this board manages the complex task of simultaneously routing any of the 20 inputs to any of the 20 outputs in any combination of SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats.

High-Bandwidth 6G-SDI Crosspoint

The Main PCB is engineered around a sophisticated crosspoint switch that maintains signal integrity across all 40 BNC connections. It is designed to handle "clean switching" requirements, ensuring that the router can transition between different video standards on different ports without interference.

  • Mixed Format Routing: The board allows you to connect a mixture of SD, HD, and Ultra HD equipment on the same router at the same time.

  • SDI Re-clocking: Every single output on the PCB features dedicated re-clocking, which regenerates the SDI signal to reduce jitter and allow for maximum cable lengths.

Integrated Control and Network Logic

This board does more than just route video; it acts as the central communication hub for the entire Videohub ecosystem.

  • Ethernet Control: The Main PCB hosts the web server and network protocols that allow the router to be controlled via the Videohub Software Control on Mac and Windows, or via hardware Videohub Smart Control panels.

  • Front Panel Interface: It manages the communication with the front panel (often a separate assembly) that houses the LCD, spin knob, and buttons for local crosspoint changes.

  • Serial Port (RS-422): Includes the logic for external router control protocols, common in automated broadcast environments.

Power Distribution and Redundancy

The Smart Videohub 20x20 is designed for "mission-critical" environments. The Main PCB features robust power regulation to ensure that the 6G-SDI chips—which generate a significant amount of heat—receive stable voltage. It is designed to work in tandem with the internal power supply units to provide 24/7 reliability in a broadcast rack.

Key Features

  • Genuine OEM Spare: Specifically for the 20x20 model (not interchangeable with the 12x12 or 40x40 versions).

  • Full 6G-SDI Bandwidth: Supports resolutions up to 2160p30 on every port.

  • Reference Input Logic: Houses the circuitry for Black Burst and Tri-Sync input to ensure all routed signals stay in sync with the house clock.

  • Ruggedized BNC Array: Features 40 high-quality, chassis-grounded BNC connectors soldered directly to the board.

Technical Installation Note

Replacing the Main PCB on a 20x20 router is a major technical operation due to the density of the hardware:

  • BNC Alignment: The most challenging part of the installation is aligning the 40 BNC ports with the rear metal plate. All ports must be perfectly seated before the plate is screwed back on to avoid putting stress on the solder joints.

  • Cooling and Airflow: The 6G-SDI crosspoint chips are covered by large heat sinks. When installing the new board, ensure the internal fans are functioning and that the airflow paths across these heat sinks are completely unobstructed.

  • IP Configuration: Upon first power-up, the new board will revert to factory default network settings. You will need to connect via USB or the default IP to re-configure the router for your specific network.

  • Static Hazard: Because this board contains an massive array of sensitive SDI drivers and an FPGA, it is highly susceptible to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge). Work only on a grounded anti-static mat.
