Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO
The ATEM Mini Pro ISO is a high-performance live production switcher that looks like the standard "Mini" but contains a powerful internal recording engine. In 2026, it remains the gold standard for creators who want to "live-edit" a show while keeping the flexibility to completely redo the edit in post-production.
The "ISO" Advantage
This is the feature that separates this model from the standard Pro:
-
5-Stream Recording: It records all 4 HDMI inputs as individual "clean" feeds (ISO) plus the final program feed simultaneously. These are saved as high-quality H.264 files to an external USB-C drive.
-
DaVinci Resolve Project Export: When you finish recording, the switcher creates a DaVinci Resolve project file (.drp). When you open this on your computer, your live switch is already laid out on a timeline—you can move cuts, change transitions, and even swap entire shots.
-
BRAW Relinking: If you are shooting with Blackmagic Pocket cameras, the ISO can relink your edit to the high-resolution Blackmagic RAW files stored in the cameras for a 4K or Ultra HD finish.
Core Functionality
-
4 Standards-Converted Inputs: Mix and match frame rates and resolutions (720p, 1080i, 1080p) across all 4 HDMI ports; the switcher automatically handles the conversion.
-
Built-in Hardware Streaming: Features an internal RTMP engine. Plug in an Ethernet cable and you can stream directly to YouTube, Twitch, or Facebook without needing a computer to do the heavy lifting.
-
USB Webcam Output: The USB-C port allows the unit to act as a webcam for Zoom, Teams, or OBS.
-
Multiview: The HDMI output can be set to show all 4 cameras, preview, program, and status for recording/streaming on a single monitor.

USB-C Cable Requirement (Not Included)
As noted, the USB-C cable is not included. To ensure the ISO recording works correctly:
-
Requirement: You must use a high-speed USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) cable.
-
Warning: A standard phone charging cable or a USB 2.0 cable will likely fail when trying to write five simultaneous HD video streams to a disk, resulting in "dropped frames" or corrupted files.
Operational Insight (2026)
The ATEM Mini Pro ISO only has one USB-C port. This means you have to choose your workflow:
-
USB to SSD: For recording all 5 ISO streams directly to a drive. (In this mode, you stream via Ethernet).
-
USB to Computer: For using the switcher as a Webcam in Zoom/OBS. (In this mode, you cannot record ISOs to a drive).
Pro Tip: If you absolutely need to record ISOs to a drive and use the switcher as a webcam at the same time, you'll need the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, which features two USB-C ports to handle both tasks simultaneously.
