Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor
The DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor is a professional hardware control panel released in May 2024 alongside DaVinci Resolve 19. It is designed specifically for high-speed live sports replay and multi-cam news editing. Unlike traditional "edit-only" keyboards, this panel bridges the gap between live production (Instant Replay) and post-production (Editing/Color/VFX).
The "Blackmagic Replay" Workflow
The Replay Editor is the physical interface for a unique system where HyperDecks (or an ATEM ISO switcher) record "growing files" to shared storage (like a Cloud Store Max), while DaVinci Resolve acts as the live playback engine.
-
POI (Point of Interest): The most critical button on the panel. When an event happens (like a goal or a crash), the operator hits POI. Resolve instantly cues all camera angles to that specific timecode.
-
Multi-View Search: The large search dial allows you to scroll through time, and the viewer displays all camera angles simultaneously. You can visually pick the best angle just by looking at the multi-view.
-
Live to Air: Once an angle is selected, the RUN button triggers the replay. If configured, it can also trigger an Auto Stinger (transition graphic) on an ATEM switcher.
-
Instant Editing: Because this is happening inside DaVinci Resolve, as soon as a replay is finished, the shots are already on a timeline. An operator can immediately trim them, add a color grade, or export them for social media while the live event is still ongoing.
Key Hardware Features
-
High-Quality Gaming Keys: Uses tactile, durable keys similar to premium gaming keyboards, spaced specifically so operators can find them by feel in a dark broadcast truck.
-
Search Dial: A heavy, weighted electronic clutch dial for ultra-precise jogging through footage or "slomo" playback.
-
Speed Slider: A dedicated physical fader to adjust playback speed in real-time, allowing for smooth slow-motion during a live broadcast.
-
Connectivity: Connects via Bluetooth 5.1 LE or USB-C.
-
Internal Battery: Includes a long-life internal battery, allowing for wireless operation on a desk or in a mobile production environment.
Integration with ATEM Switchers
The Replay Editor works in tandem with Blackmagic switchers to automate the broadcast process:
-
Key/Fill Output: Resolve can send a "Key and Fill" signal to the ATEM via hardware (like an UltraStudio or DeckLink), allowing the replay to appear over a background with professional transparency.
-
Camera Switching: You can use the physical camera buttons (1–8) on the panel to "cut" between different angles during the live replay, essentially using the panel as a sub-switcher.

Operational Insight
Traditionally, a "Replay Op" and an "Editor" were two different people using two different systems. The Replay Editor collapses these roles. For example, in a lower-league sports broadcast, a single operator can handle live replays during the game and have a "Match Highlights" reel completely finished and ready to export the moment the final whistle blows, because the editing was happening simultaneously with the replay triggers.
