Blackmagic Design Pocket Camera - EVF Eyecups
The Blackmagic Design Pocket Camera EVF Eyecups are specialized ergonomic accessories designed specifically for the Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF (used with the Pocket 6K Pro and 6K G2 models). Because the viewfinder is a critical point of contact between the operator and the camera, the eyecup serves as both a comfort feature and a functional light-shield.
Included in the Pack
When purchased as a spare or replacement set, Blackmagic typically provides a kit containing different sizes to accommodate various shooting styles and facial structures:
-
Small Eyecup: A low-profile version for operators who want to keep the camera rig as compact as possible or who wear glasses.
-
Medium Eyecup: The standard size that comes pre-installed on the EVF.
-
Large (Cine) Eyecup: A deeper, more flared version designed to fully "seal" around the eye socket. This is the preferred choice for shooting in bright daylight to prevent light leaks from hitting the OLED screen.
-
Left/Right Orientations: The eyecups are often designed to be rotated or are provided in specific shapes to support both left-eye and right-eye dominant operators.
Key Features and Material
-
Soft-Touch Silicone: Manufactured from a hypoallergenic, flexible rubber/silicone compound. This allows the eyecup to mold to the operator's face, providing a light-tight seal without causing skin irritation during long production days.
-
Snap-On Mounting: These eyecups feature a specialized plastic mounting ring or a notched rubber lip that snaps securely onto the EVF’s eyepiece. This ensures they don't fall off when the camera is pulled out of a bag.
-
Optical Clarity: By blocking peripheral light, the eyecup increases the perceived contrast and color accuracy of the 1280 x 960 OLED display, making it easier to judge critical focus and exposure.
Maintenance and Replacement
The eyecup is one of the most handled parts of the camera and is subject to significant wear and tear:
-
Hygiene: Because it makes direct contact with the face, it accumulates oils, sweat, and makeup. It is recommended to clean it regularly with alcohol-free wipes or mild soap and water.
-
Tearing: Over time, the silicone can become brittle or tear at the mounting point.
-
Lens Fogging: If you find the EVF fogging up frequently, switching to the Large eyecup can sometimes help by creating a more consistent thermal pocket, though many professionals also add a "Chamois" (a fabric cover) over the rubber for better moisture absorption.
Note on Compatibility: These eyecups are proprietary to the Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF. They will not fit the older URSA Viewfinder or third-party EVFs. If you are using the Pocket 6K Pro/G2, these are essential for "shoulder-mount" style shooting where the EVF is your primary monitoring tool.
