While it may look like a standard piece of hardware, it features a specific shoulder and head design tailored for the high-vibration environment of a camera rig.

Functional Role

This thumbscrew is the primary mechanical link between the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) and the URSA Mini Shoulder Kit or the URSA Studio Viewfinder mount.

  • The 3/8"-16 Thread: This is the larger of the two "standard" camera threads (the other being 1/4"-20). It provides the high shear strength necessary to hold the weight of the EVF, especially when the camera is being moved quickly or operated on a shoulder.

  • Knurled Head Design: The oversized, textured head allows operators to tighten or loosen the EVF positioning by hand, even while wearing gloves, without needing a screwdriver or Allen key.

  • Shoulder Length: Unlike generic hardware store screws, this spare has a specific unthreaded "shoulder" near the head. This allows it to pass through the EVF mounting bracket while maintaining a snug fit, preventing the "sag" or "droop" often seen with third-party bolts.

  • Bent Shaft: If the camera takes a side impact, the 3/8" bolt can bend. A bent screw will cross-thread the expensive magnesium chassis of your URSA or EVF, causing permanent damage.
