The Blackmagic Design Spares - Power Module - Teranex Mini 12VDC 20W is a specialized internal AC-to-DC switching power supply designed specifically for the Teranex Mini converter range. These converters are known for their small, modular "1/3 rack" form factor, meaning this power module is engineered to be incredibly compact while maintaining the high reliability required for professional broadcast signals.
Designed for 24/7 Conversion
The Teranex Mini series—which includes SDI to HDMI, HDMI to SDI, and various 12G-SDI processors—is often tucked away in server racks or behind displays where heat management is difficult. This 20W module is designed to operate efficiently with minimal heat generation.
-
Voltage: 12V DC.
-
Wattage: 20W (Perfectly sized for the 12G-SDI processing chips and the optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel LCD).
-
Input: Universal 100V–240V AC.
-
PoE Support Note: Most Teranex Mini units can also be powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE). This internal 20W module handles the AC mains input, allowing you to use a standard IEC "kettle" lead for power if a PoE switch is not available.
Identifying a Failed 20W Module
Because Teranex Minis are often left on indefinitely, the internal power module is typically the first point of failure due to electrical aging or power surges.
-
No AC Power: The unit works via PoE but remains "dead" when plugged into a standard wall outlet.
-
Unstable Signal: You may experience dropped frames or the unit "disappearing" from the network when the 20W module begins to fail and can no longer provide a steady current.
-
Smart Panel Flickering: If you have the optional LCD Smart Panel installed, flickering or a "ghostly" image is often a sign of low-quality voltage output from a dying module.
Key Features
-
Genuine Manufacturer Part: Guaranteed to fit the tiny mounting footprint inside the Teranex Mini chassis.
-
Low Noise Floor: Specifically designed to prevent electrical interference from bleeding into the sensitive 12G-SDI video paths.
-
Pre-Terminated: Comes with the correct 2-pin or multi-pin wiring harness for a tool-less connection to the Main PCB (once the chassis is open).
Technical Installation Note
Replacing the power module in a Teranex Mini is a tight operation that requires precision.
-
Lethal Charge: Even this small 20W supply has capacitors that hold high voltage. Unplug the unit for at least 5 minutes before opening it.
-
Chassis Removal: You must remove the four screws on the bottom and slide the internal tray out of the metal "sleeve" to access the module.
-
Insulation Sheet: Blackmagic usually includes a thin plastic Mylar insulator under these modules. Do not discard this. It must be placed under the new module to prevent the solder points from touching the metal chassis and causing a short circuit.
-
Connector Safety: Be very gentle with the wiring harness. The connectors on the Main PCB are small and can be ripped off the board if you pull the wires too hard.
