The Hollyland 2/4 Wire Converter (Model: HL-WC01) is a rugged, compact system utility designed to bridge legacy wired party-line intercom hardware with modern 4-wire digital communications.
In broad television, theatre, and industrial event grids, matching different audio standards can cause level drops or feedback loops. This bidirectional converter handles the cross-translation automatically, maintaining pristine wideband audio quality in both directions.
Understanding the Conversion
Wired intercom infrastructures generally fall into two categories. This converter acts as an active, real-time translator between them:
-
2-Wire Systems (Party-Line): Used by brands like Clear-Com, RTS, or Altair. They transmit power and bidirectional (two-way) talk/listen audio down a single pair of wires within a standard 3-pin XLR line.
-
4-Wire Systems (Matrix/Digital): Used by high-end digital matrix platforms, broadcast consoles, and wireless hubs (like the Hollyland Solidcom C1 / C1 Pro Hub or Syscom 1000T). These split incoming and outgoing audio lines onto entirely independent pairs of pins (one path exclusively for input, one exclusively for output).
Core Performance Features
-
Intelligent Auto-Nulling Circuitry: The biggest hurdle in 2-to-4 wire conversion is line echo caused by impedance mismatches. The converter features a dedicated, front-panel AUTO NULL button. With one click, the device generates an internal test tone, analyzes the connected line impedance, and drops echo levels out of the track automatically.
-
Power-Free Party-Line Drawing: The converter can extract its operational power directly from an active 12V to 36V DC 2-wire intercom line. You do not need to hunt for an external wall outlet on a busy production floor. (Note: If the 2-wire side doesn't provide power, it can also run off standard USB-C bus power).
-
Distance Wire-Length Compensation: Built with internal DIP switches on the chassis to account for high-frequency signal roll-off over long cable runs. Users can toggle distance compensation steps to optimize audio performance for cable lengths spanning up to 656 feet (200 meters).
-
Independent ±6 dB Gain Trimming: Features independent physical gain adjustment switches for both the 4-Wire Input and 4-Wire Output stages. This allows technical directors to balance varying audio volumes between different manufacturer systems.
-
6-Segment Real-Time LED Level Meters: Dual LED level strips provide instant, scannable visual feedback for signal inputs and outputs, flashing green for optimal paths and shifting to red to warn of audio clipping.

The Auto-Nulling Status Indicator
When initializing a system, click the physical AUTO-NULL button on the front face. The integrated LED color ring provides real-time diagnostic feedback:
-
Cyan (Blue-Green): Idle state / calibration has not been performed yet.
-
Green: Calibration successful. Echo paths have been calculated and suppressed.
-
Red: Calibration failed. The device detected active crosstalk, a terminal short, or open open-ended cables. Check your XLR connectors and re-run.
Ecosystem Integration Best Practice: If you are hooking this up to cascade a Hollyland Solidcom C1 / C1 Pro Hub with an existing wired Clear-Com setup, wire the 4-wire ports of this converter to the 4W RJ45/XLR terminal on the Solidcom Hub, and the 2-wire side to your party-line. Turn off all microphones on the beltpacks before hitting AUTO-NULL, as background room ambient noise bleed can distort the accuracy of the acoustic echo measurement.
