The Hollyland Pyro S 4K HDMI/SDI Wireless Video Transmitter represents a major shift from Hollyland’s legacy Mars series, moving into multi-receiver, dual-band monitoring for professional video production.

Designed for independent filmmakers, live event crews, and commercial sets, the Pyro S stands out by supporting one transmitter to four independent receivers simultaneously, while featuring both HDMI and robust 3G-SDI hardware interfaces.

Core RF & Video Engineering Features

  • Auto Dual-Band Hopping (2.4 GHz & 5.8 GHz): Pyro S utilizes proprietary Auto Frequency Hopping (AFH) technology that broadcasts across both frequency bands at the exact same time. If the system encounters local Wi-Fi or electronic signal congestion, it dynamically drops the interrupted band and relies on the clean line without a single dropped frame.

  • 1-to-4 Receiver Multiplexing: A single Pyro S Transmitter can push real-time video signals to four dedicated hardware receivers at once. Alternatively, it can split the workload by transmitting to 2 hardware receivers while concurrently streaming via Wi-Fi to 2 mobile devices (tablets or smartphones) using the HollyView app.

  • Dual Interface (HDMI + 3G-SDI): Cross-compatible with mirrorless rigs, pro-tier cinema rigs, and field switchers. The transmitter includes HDMI input/loop-out and 3G-SDI input, while the receiver outputs via both HDMI and 3G-SDI.

  • 4K UHD High-Bitrate Monitoring: Supports video pass-through up to 4K at 30fps over HDMI, operating at a high 12 Mbps bitrate. This produces sharp color depth and edge contrast for accurate pull-focus evaluation.

  • UVC/RTMP Live Stream Ready: The receiver includes a USB-C port supporting standard UVC (USB Video Class). You can plug the receiver directly into a computer to act as a driverless webcam link, streaming high-definition camera feeds straight into OBS Studio, Zoom, or YouTube Live.

Technical Specifications Matrix

Feature Specification
Transmission Range Up to 1,300 Feet (400 Meters) Line-of-Sight (LOS)
Signal Latency Window Minimal 0.05 Seconds (50ms) end-to-end response
Wireless Core Carrier Dual-Band 2.4 GHz & 5.8 GHz Dynamic Spectrum
Resolution Support HDMI: 4K at 30/25/24 fps, 1080p | SDI: 1080p up to 60fps
Power Options Sony NP-F series battery bracket, 12V DC Input, or USB-C (5V/2A)
Display Panel High-Brightness OLED screen with interactive status matrix
Housing Construction Lightweight Aerospace-Grade Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy

Dual Performance Modes

The transmitter menu includes a manual toggle allowing crews to reallocate signal distribution depending on the needs of the set:

  1. Smooth Mode: The system dynamically adjusts the transmission bitrate to keep latency to an absolute minimum (50ms). This mode is optimized for roving Focus Pullers / 1st ACs where tracking instantaneous movement is critical.

  2. HD Mode: Prioritizes absolute visual fidelity, locking the bitrate to its highest threshold (up to 12 Mbps) to eliminate compression artifacts. This mode is best suited for the Director’s Monitor or client village where color accuracy, framing, and fine details are being evaluated.

On-Set Power Tip: While the Pyro S features standard Sony NP-F style battery plates on the back of each unit, running the transmitter continuously in 4K dual-band mode generates noticeable heat and drains small NP-F550 cells quickly. For long production days, use the locking barrel 12V DC input to connect to a V-mount battery plate D-Tap line, or feed continuous power via a USB-C power bank.
