The Kiloview N5 is a highly versatile, broadcast-grade bidirectional hardware converter designed to bridge traditional 3G-SDI video gear with NDI IP workflows. It operates as either an encoder (converting 3G-SDI baseband video into NDI network streams) or a decoder (taking NDI network sources and outputting them via 3G-SDI), supporting resolutions up to 1080p60.

Core Technical Features

1. Unified NDI Ecosystem Compatibility

The N5 uniquely processes both flavors of the NDI protocol, providing total flexibility depending on your network infrastructure bandwidth limitations:

  • Full NDI (High Bandwidth): Delivers visually lossless, ultra-low latency video (typical bitrate of ~125 Mbps at 1080p60) utilizing a YCbCr 4:2:2 8-bit color profile.

  • NDI|HX 2 & NDI|HX 3: Offers highly compressed, bandwidth-efficient streams (typical bitrate of ~80 Mbps at 1080p60) utilizing a YCbCr 4:2:0 8-bit color profile. Note: It does not support original legacy NDI|HX1.

2. Dual-Mode Operation

  • Encoding Mode: Takes a 3G-SDI input from a camera or switcher and pushes it to the network as an NDI source. The physical 3G-SDI output port acts as a zero-latency loop-through for local confidence monitoring.

  • Decoding Mode: Automatically auto-detects incoming NDI or NDI|HX streams from the network and decodes them to output a physical 3G-SDI signal into monitors, switchers, or legacy infrastructure.

3. Integrated Production Utilities

  • On-Unit Monitoring: Features a built-in 1.14-inch LCD screen with touch controls allowing operators to verify IP addresses, CPU load, network connectivity, internal device temperature, and resolution formats on the fly.

  • Seamless Decoding Switching: Via the web interface, you can preset up to 9 distinct NDI sources. Users can switch between these inputs with zero glitching, black screens, or lagging.

  • PTZ Camera Control: Supports passthrough camera control over IP or via physical USB-to-serial conversion (RS-232/RS-485/RS-422) directly out of the device.

  • Power Redundancy: Can be powered via standard Power over Ethernet (PoE 802.3af) through its Gigabit Ethernet port, a standard 12V DC barrel connector, or a wide-voltage USB/camera battery source (5V to 18V).
