The STX series is Neutrik's heavy-duty, metal-housed line of speakON connectors. It is designed for extreme touring conditions where standard plastic connectors might crush under forklift traffic, crack in freezing temperatures, or fail due to severe weather exposure.

Understanding the Gender Layout & Terminology

  • The "Male" Termination: In the standard plastic speakON series (like the NL4FX), the cable end is always a female socket, and the chassis receptacle is always a male plug. However, the premium metal STX touring series introduces male cable ends and female chassis plugs. This allows you to create heavy-duty speakON extension cables (Male to Female lines) to run power safely across massive outdoor festival stages.

  • Soldering Contacts: While standard plastic speakON plugs rely on chuck screw-terminals, the NLT4MX features heavy-duty solder cups. Soldering provides an airtight, completely permanent physical connection with zero risk of wires vibrating loose inside the shell under heavy low-end subwoofer frequencies.

Key Design & Structural Features

  • Chrome-Plated Metal Housing: The entire outer shell is made of zinc die-cast with a durable chrome plating. This provides superior structural strength and acts as a shield against electromagnetic interference (EMI).

  • IP54 Splashproof Protection: When mated with a companion STX series connector, it utilizes an integrated internal rubber sealing ring to achieve an IP54 rating. This ensures that the internal electrical contacts are protected against dust accumulation and splashing water or rain from any direction.

  • Silver-Plated Contacts: The internal 4-pole contact layout features premium silver plating. This optimizes conductivity, minimizes resistance, and handles high current loads without overheating.

Technical Specifications Matrix

Feature Specification
Electrical Configuration 4-Pole Layout (1+, 1-, 2+, 2-)
Current Capacity Rating 40 A rms continuous / 50 A audio signal (At 50% duty cycle)
Rated Voltage Baseline 250 V ac
Max Wire Size Capacity Up to 6 mm squared (10 AWG) inside the solder cups
Acceptable Outer Cable Diameter 9.0 mm to 16.0 mm (Accommodates thick touring speaker cables)
Strain Relief Mechanism Neutrik's signature chuck-type strain relief boot
Mechanical Structural Lifetime Guaranteed for greater than 5,000 insertion cycles

Pinout Reference Guide

When soldering a thick 4-conductor speaker wire into the NLT4MX, follow standard pro-audio deployment pin assignments:

  • 1+ / 1-: Primarily used for Main/Full-Range audio delivery, or Channel 1 (Low Frequencies) in bi-amped tour setups.

  • 2+ / 2-: Used for Channel 2 (High Frequencies) in bi-amped configurations, or to run a discrete secondary monitor mix down the same physical cable.
