Sennheiser Headmic 4 Condenser Neckband Microphone (Black)
The Sennheiser Headmic 4 is a premier, ultra-lightweight permanently polarized condenser neckband microphone engineered for elite vocal and speech applications. It is widely used by corporate presenters, broadcast hosts, and theater performers who require a professional, black finish that blends seamlessly with dark wardrobe or remains unobtrusive under stage lights.
This specific configuration pairs the high-performance black frame assembly with an EW cable termination, making it natively compatible with the entire Sennheiser evolution wireless ecosystem (including ew G3, ew G4, EW-D, and EW-DX series bodypack transmitters).
Key Architectural and Acoustic Attributes
-
KE 4 Cardioid Capsule Calibration: Equipped with Sennheiser's premium miniature KE 4 cardioid capsule, the headset offers high gain-before-feedback. By ignoring off-axis ambient sound from the rear and sides, it isolates the presenter's voice cleanly—even when standing directly in front of loud public address (PA) speakers or stage side-fills.
-
Sleek and Unobtrusive Appearance: The entire structural frame, capsule housing, and integrated cable jacket feature a low-reflection matte black finish. This variant delivers a sleek, traditional visual profile on camera or under studio lighting.
-
Twist-Proof Dual-Side Boom Arm: The ultra-slim (1.1 mm diameter) microphone boom arm is completely twist-proof. It can be structurally detached and re-mounted on either the left or right side of the frame, depending on user preference or camera profile angles.
-
Fully Modular, Adjustable Architecture: The high-tensile metal neckband frame can be adjusted smoothly to contour to varying head dimensions. Its modular format ensures that the cable, capsule boom, clothing clips, and ear hooks are easily interchangeable for field maintenance.
-
High-SPL Safeguards: The capsule tracks audio cleanly across a full wideband dynamic range, managing extreme performance peaks up to 143 dB SPL without digital clipping or internal diaphragm saturation.

Fitting and Field Application Advice
Optimal Proximity Placement: Slide the adjustable neckband on so it rests securely around the back of the skull. Bend the flexible boom arm gently so the KE 4 capsule sits roughly 2 to 3 cm from the corner of the mouth. Do not place the microphone capsule directly dead-center in front of the lips; offsetting it prevents breath bursts ("P" and "B" plosives) from hitting the element directly.
Keep Stress Off the Connection: The 1.6-meter cable is built to handle active movement, but it should never be pulled taut. Always leave a tiny amount of loose slack loop near the base of the neckband before routing the wire down the talent’s wardrobe to their bodypack transmitter. Secure the cable with the included clothing clip to absorb sudden body tugs and minimize cable handling noise.
